Antibiotics-need advice please!

Guys, my ear infection has worsened and I now have a slight fever. My RE called in a z pack and said it was safe, but I can’t help it. I’m so nervous to take it this early (5 weeks). Anyone have experience? I did take Tylenol to try and get my fever down fast. It was 99.1, so not bad, but of course everything freaks me out right now.

  1. I would say the fever is more dangerous and your doc is right, category b is safe. My wife was sick two or three times throughout her pregnancy, once at 6 weeks, and took antibiotics and our boy is perfectly healthy. One thing our doc said that might help you feel better is that if mom isn’t well, baby isn’t well, so take care of yourself first. I hope you feel better soon.

  2. yes, would definitely take the azithro if you’ve got a fever and the infection’s not getting better on its own. if you’re congested, definitely rinse your nose out with saline to help promote mucus drainage. hope you feel better soon!

  3. I can only comment on my own experiences and did take antibiotics for chest infections at early stage with first pregnancy and he is now about to turn 15 and is perfect! Wishing you a speedy recovery.

  4. It’s totally safe! I actually got an abscess from the PIO injections, caught a fever and had to be on antibiotics for 10 days right around the 5 week mark. I also had to change my progesterone meds and I caught a flu so I was nervous with all the change going on in my body but everything’s fine and I’m currently 14w. It’s better to take the meds and not battle a fever.

  5. I agree that the fever is worse than the z pack and if your doc is prescribing it try to have some faith. There are lots of category b drugs prescribed and over the counter that are fine in pregnancy. Infection is worse than the Meds. Breathe!

  6. I had to take ab for a uti at 10 weeks. Can’t remember what kind, but I was nervous too. If your RE says it’s ok for preg, they’d be the ones to know!

  7. I see you went ahead and took the antibiotics so that’s great. As others said here, a fever and infection and being unwell is worse for the bub then the safe meds. I think you did the right thing.
